What Do These AST And Cholesterol Levels Indicate?

Question: Yes please help
My recent lab results show an AST level of 44 Which is outside of the 5-34 recommended range.
II have rheumatoid arthritis and take methotrexate .5ml injected weekly,
High cholesterol and take 40 mg atorvastatin daily, and drink a couple glasses of wine daily

How bad is the AST level (ALT level is 30)??

Well first of all the level is very slightly high and nothing needs to be done.

The cause for this elevation is Methotrexate or Atorvastatin or even alcohol consumption. As said there is nothing to be worried and nothing needs to be done.

Avoid further intake of alcohol.

Assuming that I cut back hard on the alcohol intake does the AST reading get better or will it tend to stay the same and just just not get worse. Does the liver heal itself?

Yes the liver can heal itself and AST levels do come down if you stop drinking alcohol.
