Posted on Wed, 29 Oct 2014
Question: Hi doctor .I have chronic itching of skin .. It first appeared like big rash in legs which was itchy and look like protruded black patches which after taking antihistamines and cremes settled down to black ovules . after biopsy it was seen to be prurigo nodularus . now I get itching on forearms and thighs at intervals on daily basis . my stomach seems upset most of times .. I now take light and non oily food. The itching also is between anus and scrotum which gets intense at night . does it have a liver disease or anything serious ? I used to drink a lot and chain smoker .. Now I stopped drinking and smoke 2 ciggs a day .. Please suggest Sir.

Brief Answer:
immunosuppresants

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for the qury and photographs.
Prurigo nodularis is an autoimmune disorder.
Itching with formation of nodules is the main feature of this disease.
You need treatment with inmunosuppresants like azathioprine and strong antihistamine like thalidomide. Please discuss with your treating doctor regarding these.
Don't worry liver is not involved in this disease.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you

Thanks Doctor for your reply .. In my forearms there is also itching and that occurs at intervals . some become black like or white like powder on the skin . is that the same disease ? is the disease curable ? autoimmune sounds scary to me .if I eat egg or chicken sometimes I get rashes.. but if I don't even take them .. still itching occurs. Need to tell you that the first itching if my life occurred due to egg allergy which went away temporarily by taking avil.. pls advise ..
