What Do Negative HIV And STD Tests After 12 Weeks Of Sexual Exposure Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: I had unprotected sex with a random female XXXXXXX 27th 2014. I started having penile issues the next day and got tested 4 weeks later. All tests came back negative. I was still having issues so I got tested at 86 days from the encounter for HIV, which also came back negative. Since then I have had numerous blood tests. All which came back normal, except for some slight abnormalities in my blood levels. Since that time I had to get surgery for a diverticulum on my small intestine and am recently being looked at for interstitial cystitis. I have not had any high risk sexual encounters since XXXXXXX so I am wondering if I need to continue to get tested?

Brief Answer:
No further test for HIV/STD may be needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

Tests for HIV/STD came negative even after 12 weeks of your risky encounter confirms that you are free from HIV and those STDs you had tested for.
You had mentioned that some penile issue, but nothing more elaborate about the same.
No further test regarding HIV/STD is necessary as you had numerous blood test and all were negative. If you could mention what were all the test had been performed for you, that would be useful to give more guidance.

Well the penile issues were a light tingling when I pee (NOT a burning) and a couple of minutes after urinating I would have urine come out again into my pants. I don't specifically know what the blood tests were. I am in the military so they just took my blood and told me they would send it to the labs for testing.

Brief Answer:
Trichomonas infection is likely possibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

Tingling sensation following urination might likely be due to a Trichomonas infection. It can not be diagnosed with blood test, rarely found in urine examination. If your sex partner has this infection it would have infected you also. Examination of her vaginal discharge would reveal the same or urine examination on special culture media for Trichomonas can reveal the same. On confirmation the treatment is very easy to get a total cure. Consult a STD physician he will help you in this regards.

Ok. What are the tests conducted for that?? One of the tests I had done were they swabbed the inside of my urethra with a q-tip to test for infection. I believe they were testing for chlamydia, but could they detect any other infection if that's the case? That test came back negative also. Also, what antibiotics could I take to get rid of that?? Right now I am on ciprofloxacin. Would that rid it??

Brief Answer:
culture in special media confirms the diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
Ciprofoxacin is neither useful for chlamydia nor for trichomonas infection. Confirmation as I told already, is through culture in special media on request (Diamond's media). Drug of choice for Trichomonas infection are Metronidazole or Tinidazole as per the guidance of your physician.
