What Do My Lab Test Reports Indicate?

Posted on Fri, 17 Feb 2017
Question: Two years ago, I had a Chiropractor do a procedure on me the caused and instant buzz in my head. Like a nerve being touched. Ever since that day I can't look up, roll over in bed, do any physical activity for more than 5 to 20 Min.. Driving effects me when i start and stop a lot. I also have a constant hiss in my head.
I've done Three MRI's and Two CT's and a X-Ray of my head and neck. A neurologist in town and the Hearing and Balance Ctr. found that there is a disconnect in my left ear to one of my three brain sensors.
Vestibular, visual and proprioceptive. I've done months and months of therapy and have seen seven different Doctors. Any Suggestions.???? XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Hi XXXXXXX

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

Now, from what you are describing, there are 2 main things to point out and clarify from you:
1. You say to have done a procedure from chiropractor 2 years ago. May I know your symptoms/problems at that time that make you decide to go for this procedure?

2. You say that you have already seen the neurologist and ENT specialist who have confirmed the disconnection between left ear to brain sensors. Now, do you have any test report or any other medical report from your doctor? I need to get the diagnosis from them, in order to prepare a more specific guideline to you.

Please take note that we can interfere and help as long as the hearing nerves are not being damaged. Otherwise, it will be difficult to have success during treatment regimen.
That's why I want to understand first your situation and diagnosis already set, before giving a final solution.
Thank you.

1- The Chiropractor was trying to adjust my back for a different symptom.

He had me clasp my hands behind my neck, my elbows were touching in front of me. he went to roll me back when the buzz hit me. That was the start of my symptom.

1- I do have test results.
A pistol test from the neurologist had we veering to the left and a test from The Hearing and Balance Ctr. where they put warm and cold air in my ears showed the left ear not responsive. The Chiro was working on my lower and mid back due to stiffness.

Brief Answer:
I think you already had some hearing problems prior to procedure....

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX

Thank you for providing the requested information.

If you could send the scanned copies of your medical reports, it could be great as there are various conditions to rule out before confirming the final opinion.

Head or neck injuries may affect the hearing functions of the inner ear, hearing nerves and the brain functions responsible for hearing. These type of injuries generally affect only one ear (in your case the left ear). Sudden distortion of neck or whiplash is the most common cause as in your case.

The damages of hearing nerve as in your case are associated with special hearing sensations like buzzing and hissing or in medical terms, these sensations are called tinnitus.

Sudden hear loss or hearing nerve disconnection is not possible after such a procedure carried out by your chiropractor. To me, it seems that you might have had already set some problems with hearing prior to chiropractic procedure that had gotten worse after this procedure.

With regards to management, I advise a program called Progressive Audiologic Tinnitus Management (PATM) that helps patients to relieve their symptoms by educating them and putting a schedule of actions that improve the tinnitus. This is done by an audiologist.

I hope this was helpful for you.
