Question: I've been in bed all day w headache , congestion, coughing and muscle pains. I felt so ill I couldn't even watch tv. Half way through the day my back became extremely achy. I took 3 Advil and 3 hours later 3 Tylenol. It gives a little relief but not much. I took a mucinex at around 11 am. I've been drinking lots if water and I've had a little soup. I have 101.3 fever. Please let me know what you think I have.

Brief Answer:
LRTI most likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Acute febrile illness with a focus is likely to be due to a bacterial infection. A lower respiratory tract or urinary tract infection are the most likely causes , based on the history that you detailed. X ray chest PA view, ESR, CBC, urinalysis +/- ultrasound can be advised. Antibiotics such as a quinolone (moxifloxacin) or macrolide like clarithromycin can be initiated empirically if LRTI is suspected and x ray findings also correlate with clinical findings. Excess advil intake can cause G.I ulceration. PPI like esomeprazole can be taken t avoid NSAID related GI effects. Ebestine or zyrtec along with mucinex can be continued. Take plenty of fluids and try cooling yourself with cold sponging on the head and axillae and other body parts. Ask a friend or relative to take you to the nearest ER for further management.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

Thank you for information. I went to urgent care. Thx to your info I had them test my urine.
The dr said there were white blood cells n my urine, which indicated an infection, probably UTI. He gave me an antibiotic.
My question is: Can a person have a UTI w out the symptom of burning when urinating? If not, what else could the infection be?
Thx

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Yes, its possible without classical signs like burning/frequent/ urgent urination and flank pain. As stated earlier the respiratory tract infection is the likely cause. Antibiotic choice should pertain to the chest involvement, too.

Let me know if you have any query.

Thanks.
