default
Posted on Fri, 17 Apr 2015
Question: I get his strange sound on the left side of my head/neck area when I turn my head left or right and sometimes without moving my head at all. It feels more like minor shock with out pain. Could it be stenosis?

Brief Answer:
No worries for now, unlikely to be stenosis from symptoms,

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

I understand this could be disturbing, especially if you are experiencing this kind of the feeling for the very first time.

It might be important to reassure yourself you get this sound only on the left, and nothing on the right.

This could however, not really be a new sound , but may be you hear at now may be because you simply pay more attention.

The good news is sound when the neck is moved without pain is not call for concern. This is a normal experience experienced in extremely XXXXXXX joints like the neck and knee joints. It becomes a real issue when pain sets in. Especially at the level of the neck with no pain, is a common an non fatal phenomenon most persons experience.

I am afraid this really would not be a call for concern to think of stenosis. Absence of pain and other neurologic symptoms like (weakness, loss of sensitivity) make us reassured it is nothing serious.

I would suggest you be watchful for any pain, weakness or abnormal sensations around the head, neck and hand regions. If this happens , you might need to see your doctor for appropriate scans and magnetic rasonance images (MRIs) to be taken.

For now, no worries and is very unlikely to be stenosis.

Thanks and kind regards as I wish you the best of health.
