Posted on Wed, 5 Aug 2015
Question: Hi...I was taking some over the counter live digestion herb/pills purchased online from Dr XXXXXXX XXXXXXX along with
some live resverital 1/h teaspoon with water daily . Started them about 3 days before itching. At the same time I was told I could have possibly been exposed to scabies. I become itchy almost everywhere and got bites on my body. Ankle, Underarm, under breast and many on my right arm. I ran to the dermatologist and it was July 2nd. My doctor pulled a favor to have her ( ther derm) see me. Being the eve of a holiday there was no time to do a skin test since every was leaving town. XXXX
I was prescribed Permethrin Cream 5.1 and Oral and Ivermectin Pills together, zyrtec for possible allergy. I used the cream and the pills on Thursday at 6pm. I had immediate relief by the next day. SOme red bumps still showing up but my concern is that my eyes are currently yellow. Should I be concerned. I have had alcohol and don't know if I should not have. I bought some visine but not seeing much change. Eyes are kind of dull yellowish..not clear. No vision problems.

Brief Answer:
Testing for jaundice would be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Since you have yellow eyes, it's appropriate to test your blood for jaundice and liver function.
Itching and skin lesions are also commonly present.

Hi..i had a blood test at urgent care where I am traveling and all is normal. I am treating my possible scabies infection like it is real since I do not have a diagnoses. My first treatment was with Ivermechin and Permethrin cream 5%. I am due for a second dose tomorrow. After doing some research I discovered that one of the severe side effects of Ivermechin is yellowing of the eyes and skin. My eyes did turn yellow so I am wondering if that was the problem. I am not itching but am still having new bumps come up that are ichy..should I continue with the follow up treatment of Ivermechin and permethrin tomorrow. I do not want to take any chances as this has been a serious nightmare and I want it to be over.
Also, why is yellow of the eyes serious.

Brief Answer:
Yellowness of sclera is often due to jaundice.

Detailed Answer:
I am travelling and do not have internet access often. Thank you for your patience.
Please check with the lab whether they had tested your liver functions.
If so let me have the results.
Ivermectin is indicated for more serious parasitic infections and is not essential for scabies.
The commonest cause for true yellow coloration of the sclera ( the white part of the eye) is jaundice. The common cause of jaundice is a liver inflammation. A liver inflammation can be varying degrees of seriousness.
I feel that you may omit the Ivermectin for the present and use the topical preparation.
