What Causes Yellow Discoloration Under Toenails?

default
Posted on Thu, 10 Dec 2015
Question: I will turn age 69 in 2 months. Within the last year my toenails seemed to have quickly aged. They look splintery and have started turning yellowish on the ends. Sort of looks like I don't have as much toenail as I had even a year ago. I gather this is the normal part of aging, but do you know of home treatments or daily habits that might make aging toenails look healthier?

Brief Answer:
Yes, age related and can be managed better.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Keeping foot in warm water for 10 minutes daily will improve moisturization to nail
2. While clipping, cut it square, rather than in a round shape, which is usually done.
3. Wear comfortable foot wear and socks to avoid any contact with nails.
4. Malnutrition can make changes in toe nail faster. Take a protein and vitamin rich diet with good hydration.

Hope it helps.
