What Causes Whitish Diarrhea In A Child?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: 6 days ago my 13 months old sun had a little sunburn. Nothing major, just a little rosy cheeks. But the day after he started having some really smelly, whitish diarrhea. I thought that's to do with the sunburn. But his skin colour was back to normal after not even 36 hours but diarrhea has continued for 5 days now. We have taken him off cow milk 48 hours ago, but nothing has changed. Other symptoms are tiredness, lack of appetite and since today rosy cheek (maybe just teething?). His personality hasn't changed - happy as ever when he's not sleeping. What should I do? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Acute gastroenteritis symptomatic care no cow milk at all

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and I understand your concern. The answer lies in the question. We Do NOT give cow milk to a child less than 2 years of age.

This recent 5 days history of whitish diarrhea however is a flare of acute gastroenteritis and should be treated with fluids replenishment and measures for rehydration.

Give your child only Banana Rice applesauce and Toast till full recovery. Pomegranate extracts and green tea with oral rehydration solutions like paedialyte etc should also be in place. Keep a diary of your baby stools and notice any improvement in time duration and frequency etc.

Prefer breast feeding if available as that is the best of all managements plans.

Get your child a rota virus vaccine and if the symptoms persist for more than 72 hours get the child to a paediatrician and let them evaluate him for the cause with some work up over stool like parasites, ova, rota virus immunoassay etc.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and your child and don't forget to close the discussion please.
