default
Posted on Tue, 3 Mar 2015
Question: Hello,

Since a week, I see that a while light passes in my left eye, a flash kind of a thing, and its not an outside light. I can see it may be 4 times per day which lasts for a second. It happens suddenly. Please let me know what this condition could be?

As a background, I work on laptop for 7 hours per day for 5 days a week. My vision is normal & do not have eye sight.

Regards,

Brief Answer:
retinal causes to be excluded.

Detailed Answer:
Going through your history, it is focused on retinal pathology. It can be holes, tear and peripheral detachment. Retina should be examined by indirect ophthalmoscope to cover maximum field. If any thing like that is detected then specific treatment can be given by retina surgeon.

Working on laptop for 7 hours a day continuously, one can develop computer vision syndrome. It is mainly dry eye, but it should affect both the eyes. As precaution you should not use it continuously. In between take break and can look out side through window. Can put antiglare screen before computer screen, and use antiglare specs. Apply artificial tear drop 2-3 times in between.

As said earlier, retinal causes to be excluded. It can be posterior vitreous detachment and rubbing of vitreous with retina. If nothing is detected then it can be normal, but to be reviewed at routine interval. History of injury to be taken.
