Question:
Hello, my 9 month old has a white discoloration on upper iris of left eye.  Pediatrician thinks it's just lack of pigment.  Their sending us to optamoligist but can't get in until tomorrow.  Is it eye cancer or brain tumor?

Brief Answer:
No its not a cancer sign.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

No this is not a sign of either eye cancer or brain tumor. Iris white discoloration (not whole, just a part of it) is most likely a hereditary lack of pigment. As long as the discoloration is not brown, pupil is not white when taking a photo (leukocoria - a sign of retinoblastoma) no need to worry.
Brain tumor can cause changes in the eye background what can be seen by an ophthalmologist.
So please try to not worry. Simply visit ophthalmologist as scheduled. This is the best you can do.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

So it could be a brain tumor? I will have a heart attack by 11:15 am. Would there be other signs? Could it be brush field spots? They just look like white rays on the upper iris.

Detailed Answer:
NO, THIS IS NOT A BRAIN TUMOR! It can not be diagnosed by iris look.
Brushfield spots are located in periphery of whole iris what looks like an irregular circle. The spots are not in one side of iris only.

Thank you! I always jump to the worst place. I thought my oldest sons swollen lyphnode was nothing and it turned out to be lymphoma. I used to hold the cell phone near the baby before I knew better now I'm just terrified. Thanks for your help!
