Question: husband has been having intermittent white stools bowel movement twice in four days - rest of time brown. He drinks approx 5 ensure vanilla 8 oz drinks, eats pbj sandwiches and a banana. Poor appetite--all tteth need to be remove and replaced with dentures, hard 4 him 2 chew. He has diabetes type 2 & is managing well with diet and 1000 mg metaformin/da. Has osteoarthritis in knees (takes no NASDADS because of old GI history including removal of gall bladder, diverticulitis, regional enteriritis (had colostomy bag whic was taken down after 3 months) had 2 hernia operations and chronic constipation which caused in & out hemmoriods. He take kactolose, 1 tblsp/da & sennaa cloace combo pill, 4-5/da. this recnt regime seems to be very helpful. He ALSO TAKE pEARL PROBIOTIC, 1 pill/da. started approx. 3 mos ago. Hasn't had any recent GI surgeries but was seen in ER foor costpation before above remedy. There aPPEARED TO er docs (3times in ER during3 mo. period before starting above practice, to be no blockages and diagnosis after lood work and tests was constipation & beginning dementia which now includes ocassinal behavioral changes. He had a stroke appox 5 yrs ago and while no damages to legs wasnoted, he was subsequently diagnosed as a fall risk. We have live in caregiver who helps with tioletting and dressig and etc. He also is helped to exercise and start to walk with 2 caregivers and walker. He is generally just in bed and has had depression and anxiety for the past 16 yrs intermittently. Many of the pysch meds impeded his ability to try to walk. He no longer takes anything but 60 mg cymbalta/da. He has chronic pain. I do not like to take him to er as you sit for 6+ hrs and they always want to start anIV. He is very very hardstick and ofte requires many tries before any success. He is an anemic and is deficient insome vits and minerals. He has no energy.
