The lesion you described can have alot of causes commonly it can be due to canker sore or aphthous ulcers they can occur at mouth roof typically due to certain foods stress irrtants etc they are usually very painful.
Oral thrush or candiasis is another common cause due to overgrowth of fungus i-e candida leads to white patches and red spots on roof of mouth common in patients with diabetes or having dentures or any immunocompromised state oral herpes( HSV -1)can cause red spots on roof of mouth followed by white or grey ulcer.
Coxsackievirus causing hand foot mouth disease may present as red spots and blisters along mouths roof but its common undet age of five
Lichen planus of mouth which is chronic lesion itchy and inflammatory can occur on skin and roof of mouth can occur as white spots
Petechie develops when small vessels ruptures under mucosa can be due to injuries or blood disorders or infections
Syphilis can also cause white patches on tongue and roof of mouth.
Leukoplakia is white patch flat painless smooth to which there is no cause is found it can ne removed with scraping. May be assosiated with excessive smoking drinking may change into cancer after decades similar to it is erythroplakia but its red in colour this too can develop into cancer.
Examination of oral cavity is usually done to reach a conclusion and then further investigations are used to confirm it. Treatment is according to cause detected.
if it persists then biopsy can be taken to see as what type of lesion it is or see any dysplasia.
