Brief Answer:
Diet and exercise

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
I have gone through your query.
It could be possible to gain weight after surgery because of complete bed rest and taking nutritious diet in order to have rapid recovery post surgery. As you have mentioned it has been year since surgery, Surgery and weight gain could be merely co-incidence and not related with each other.

It is better to calculate your Body mass index, there are many online calculator available. I would like to know your weight and height.
Best way to reduce weight for you will be religiously following these 2 things mentioned below

1. Diet Control - Consume More of water, green leafy vegetables, vegetable salad, two serving of fruits a day.
Avoid oily food, refined sugar and excessive consumption of table salt

2. Exercise - Brisk Walking will be best exercise. Brisk Walking for 30 minutes at a stretch per day will definitely help. If possible walk twice for 30 minutes each. Other form of exercise may aggravate the hernia.

Kindly follow this for 15 days and observe for any change.
This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
Take care.
