Posted on Fri, 2 May 2014
Question: over years my forearms and my wrist over time have become increasingly weak. The wrists have become extremely weak and its very visible. I can crack my whole arm by just straighing it out. My hands shake and im thinking its something to do with poor circulation which is also affecting the nervous system? im 32 exercise 3-4 times a week, recently stopped 6 month ago and it appears to be getting worse. Its affecting me and my job but i seem to hide it well. recently stopped smoking. Correction to the above question

Brief Answer: Charcot XXXXXXX Tooth Detailed Answer: Hi, If your condition is painless then it could be that you have a peripheral neuropathy such as Charcot XXXXXXX Tooth responsible for your symptoms. You should present to your doctor for a physical examination, particularly a neurological assessment. Peripheral neuropathies can be diagnsosed on physical assessment supported by nerve conduction studies. You should also have some general blood work as the commonest cause of peripheral neuropathy is diabetes. There are other possible causes such as compression of nerves in your neck although this would usually cause pain, weakness and numbness. Another possible diagnosis could be motor neurone disease where the communciation between the nerves the muscles themselves become damaged over time. I hope this information is of benefit to you. Best wishes

Brief Answer: Tell you Dr your symptoms and ask about tests Detailed Answer: Hi If you tell your Dr what your symptoms are they should know what tests to do and how to diagnose the various conditions outlined above. You Dr should want to get to the bottom of this for you. Tell your Dr you are concerned about a nerve or muscle problem causing the weakness and wasting and ask if they think you would benefit from seeing a neurologist, having nerve tests, having an MRI scan of your neck and or brain, having blood work to look for diabetes or other causes of these problem. I hope this helps Best wishes
