Posted on Mon, 7 Apr 2014
Question: I am a 26 y.o. female and after a night out celebrating with friends on new years, we had been drinking, The next day I woke up really disoriented and felt off balance. I thought it was just due to the alcohol consumption. and made sure to drink a lot of water and got lot of rest. then something really scary happend, I woke up and my arms seemed to twitch and my left eye kept spasming. My hands felt really weak and had burning and tingling sensations. my lower left eyelid now continually spasms nonstop, and I am having visual disturbances. At times, when people hand me objects, I get really dizzy and just about drop it.it only happens when I'm caught off guard. I also feel a weight on my chest at times and wake up at night feeling SOB. I think I may be going apneic while sleeping, then awake trying to catch my breath. I also feel increased intraoccular pressure, sometimes it's worse then others. I am going to see primary care Dr tomorrow, but think I need an MRI and would like to know if it is likely that there is a lesion that is causing these symptoms or an inflammed/ irritated nerve in my brain? know your suggestions for diagnostic testing? I have been taking B-100 supplements, K, Mg supplements. CBC /electrolytes shownormal levels. I have developed permanent left eye spasms on the lower eyelid and it has been ongoing for weeks... i am getting nervous , I am entering my final semester of Respiratory School in the fall and need to have the manual dexterity and need to be able to respond quickly to codes. Any advice greatly appreciated this has completely derailed my life and I have been forced to take a leave of absence this semester. this has been ongoing and first episode was 12/31/2013. These last few months, I have a lowered quality of life any ideas of prognosis?

immediately after initial episode, I thought I could of had XXXXXXX strokes. i did have EKG done at a clinic, but it was not 12 lead. sinus rhythm, vitals, HR 88, 98% on RA, BP was high 160/88, but Dr thought it could be stress related. my BP is usually around 118/80. I did see on call primary care Dr, and she thought I could have had a panic attack because of my age and symptoms can mimic what I was experiencing. I would fully be willing to accept this, however I am still having the chronic nerve pain/muscle weakness and constant lower eyelid spasms , and visual disturbances at least one-two times weekly. it seems after an episode (muscle twitches/eyelid spasms/disorientation lasts for about an hr off and on) the weakness is at it's worse then it gradually seems to improve. but I still have the chronic eyelid spasms and difficulty grabbing objects that are handed to me at times.

Brief Answer: Please get the tests done Detailed Answer: Hello yes, I agree with the doctor to a possibility of Panic attack .Look for the symptoms of extreme apprehension of something bad happening round the corner, choking sensation, tingling, giddiness, palpitation, tremors etc. If these were present, possibility does exist. I also consider possibility of structural lesion in brain due to your age. You should get a EEG and CT scan Head for that. I would suggest to get the investigations done for Cardiovascular Etiology as well so get a TMT and Echocardiogram. DR SAATIISH JHUNTRRAA
