What Causes Vomiting Inspite Of Being On Water Fasting?

Posted on Thu, 23 Apr 2015
Question: I have been water fasting for three days now. I'm 20, female, 5'8" and 177 pounds. I've been vomiting. It started out as clear, then yellow, then really dark yellow. And now it's a super dark brown. Is it still just bile? Is this a sign of detox?

Brief Answer:
do blood electrolytes test and visit your doctor. it could be ketosis

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXX, welcome to hcm and thanks for choosing us.

I presume that you are trying this water fasting to lose weight. I share your concerns regarding your weight. But let me warn you that water fasting is not a safe method. It can be a very effective method to reduce weight and to detoxify the body, but its risky, should be done in supervision of your doctor. Morever you need to visit a doctor as you have already completed three days as water fasting brings lot of changes in blood chemistry, some of them are life threatening like hyponatremia (reduced sodium).

Vomiting in your case may indicate detoxification, reduced sodium levels or ketosis (fat cells releasing ketone bodies). Change in colour and thickness of vomited fluid indicates all these three conditions. So please visit a doctor immediately and get your electrolytes tested. This will help us in assessing your present health status.

However I would request you to not try such methods to lose weight or to detoxify. At this young age you can try physical activities, modify your diet rather than stopping completely. Water fasting takes a toll of your health, so please don't try auch methods.

I hope my reply will benefit you. Please write to HCM or me for follow up queries.
