What Causes Vomiting And Fever In An Elderly?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 May 2014
Question: My husband (80 years old, in generally good health, though he had a heart attack 15 years ago) vomited twice this evening, and has 99.1 fever. He seems tired, and after the vomiting has no further feeling of intestinal pressure. The question is - is there anything I can do to improve the situation? Do I need to take him to a Med Express or emergency room?

Brief answer....just wait and watch for another 24 hours.
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Since the fever is mild and there were only two vomiting, you may wait for another 24 hours and wait for evolution of symptoms. In case his vomiting increases or the temperature shoots up,then you can go to ER.Other wise just give him sufficient fluids for rehydration and can give Tylenol ,if he complains of bodyache or headache.
I feel it is just a mild viral infection and should go off in a day or two.
I hope it helps, however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
