What Causes Vision In One Eye Significantly Worse Than In The Other?

Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: My 12 year old daughter had a recent eye exam. Her right eye is now significantly worse than her left. It has caused the optometrist to have us see a specialist. What could cause such a dramatic change in her one eye?

Brief Answer:
Please provide more information for better assessment

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I appreciate your concern for your daughter.
This might be related to refractory error, visual field defect or local eye disease

Here I would like further information for better assessment for the condition
If she is complaining of any problem with vision
Any history of discharge or redness in eye

In my opinion you should see an eye specialist for confirmation of diagnosis and definitive care
Please write back to with these details so that I will be able to tell you more accurately
Best wishes

She is not complaining of any eye discomfort. She does complain of light sensitivity. There is no redness or discharge. She did have conjunctivitis twice. This was approx. 3 years ago. The light sensitivity was discussed with the optometrist, and he decided it was due to her eyes being light in color. We got her progressive lenses.

Brief Answer:
She requires physical check up

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome again and thanks for the details
Light sensitivity can't be affected by color of eye.

Since this problem starts acutely and one eye is affected so this could be an infective condition which can lead to serious complications, so I would advise you to see a ophthalmologist right away for physical examination and and a course of antibiotic eye drops.

Meanwhile ask her to avoid direct exposure to sunlight
Not to touch or rub her eyes.
she can wash her eyes with clean and cold water.
Best wishes
