What Causes Vaginal Bleeding Post Unprotected Intercourse?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Feb 2015
Question: Hello-- I had a really bad unprotected sexual experience on Saturday that left me bleeding for about 12 hours and has caused me severe pain in my abdomen and a hot sensation. I am now feeling sort of sick to my stomach and can not seem to eat much. I just feel strange. I took the morning after pill, but I am now worried about pregnancy. I really do not want to be pregnant with this man's baby. Is it possible to have symptoms this soon? I know that I should take a blood test, but I am not ready to explain what happened.

Brief Answer:
Pregnancy tests never occur so early

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in details.
Please find my observations as follows.

1. If your bleeding started only after the unprotected sexual intercourse then it is possible that you might have hurt your vagina. This can happen due to rough sex or due to decreased lubrication and increased friction during sex. If the bleeding continues then it is important to go to ER and take treatment after confirmation of the cause of bleeding.

2. Blood loss for about 12 hours is stressful and might cause you to feel weak and sick including the symptoms of severe pain and hot sensation.

3. Since you have taken the morning after pill therefore there is no need to worry about pregnancy right now.

4. Pregnancy tests are accurate at least 15 days after last probable sexual intercourse. These are urine tests that can be done at home. Please do these tests only after 15 days from your sexual intercourse.

5. Pregnancy symptoms will not occur so early and at least 3 to 4 weeks are required.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
