default
Posted on Wed, 10 May 2017
Question: I'm experiencing a significant pain in my upper abdominal area under my left rib cage over to the side of my abdomin. I've taken Tylenol severe allergy meds since Fri (sinus infection I think). Woke me up this morning and I've been experiencing it in various degrees of severity. Nausea also. Should I go to the ER?

Brief Answer:
Can be angina.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Most likely the sensation you are trying to explain can be angina(heart pain).Classical angina is associated with exertion and relieves on resting.Left sided chest pain involving area under rib cage radiating to upper abdomen(most common site of anginal pain) in a female of age 55 years can be related to heart
I would strongly recommend you to go to the nearest emergency room and get few basic tests of cardiology one like
2 d echo- Regional wall motion of heart will be appreciated. In case there is any ischemia regional wall motion abnormality will be seen.
Stress test- You are made to run on a treadmill and ecg recordings will be taken.Any ST-T change is suggestive of ischemia or coronary artery disease.

Combined together 2d echo and treadmill test are more then 75% sensitive to rule out coronary artery disease.
Blood workup like Trop I and trop T should be done

I would suggest you to go for these two baseline tests of cardiology initially before giving you any further opinion.
Please answer the following questions-
Do you ever feel pain relieves on resting?
Do this pain has any relation to food intake?
Any episode of breathlessness or palpitation>?

As of now take one tablet pantoprazole and visit the nearest emergency centre.
Regards
