What Causes Unusual Heart Palpitations?
Question: Hi, Off late I have been experiencing unusual heart palpitations. Did a full body checkup, everything seems fine.
Very worried as its happening very frequently, specially is someone is talking loudly suddenly, or if sumone makes a sound like a car horn or something

If you are getting palpitations off & on and your cardiac work-up is normal,endocrine cause like thyrotoxicosis or phaeochromocytoma needs to be ruled out . Excessive Coffee, tea, alcohol consumption also can give rise to palpitations. What is your daily caffeine and weekly alcohol consumption?
However description of palpitation as it is often precipitated by loud sounds or car horns indicates anxiety state .
What is your heart rate when you get palpitations?
In patients with panic disorders and other anxiety states, the sensation of palpitations may occur during periods of normal rate and rhythm.
Certain drugs can also cause palpitations like sympathomimetic drugs.
Medicines particularly decongestants such as ‘cold cures’ often contain sympathomimetic drugs.
Is there any relieving factors like breath-holding, exercise?
If there is no organic cause ,anxiolytic drugs will relieve symptoms.
