Brief Answer:
Need information.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for posting the concern in HCM.
From the history I can understand that your husband has got a complaint of refractory hiccup after discharge from the hospital. But, the medical history written by you is not clear and contains some inadvertent typing error which has made it difficult for me to understand. Please clarify-
1. Who had stomach cancer? The patient or somebody else?
2. Please write this sentence correctly-
"To. His is one of the side effect."
Please also specify medical history (presence of any other diseases, e.g. Diabetes, hypertension etc.), medications used till now and whether there is a history of any allergy.
However, I usually prescribe my patients to have Xylocaine viscous or Lidocaine 2%viscous which needs to be swallowed in an amount of 10 ml and can be repeated up to 6 to 8 times per day. This is a local anaesthetic which is well known to relieve refractory hiccups particularly in palliative care setting. As soon as the hiccup stops you can stop giving the medicine. You can discuss about this your primary doctor. Use it on SOS basis.
For any further information, please write back.
Regards

Thank you for your response. My husband has stomach cancer and he had surgery just 2 weeks ago. The hiccups are a side effect I guess from his surgery.
I contacted his doctor and he recommended that I take him to the emergency and once we arrived he had a fever so they readmitted him. I appreciate your help and will use your suggestion perhaps in the future.

Brief Answer:
Hiccups common in cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your prompt reply.
Actually hiccups are pretty common in cancer patients in palliative care setting, particularly Ca stomach. You can use what I advised later on if the problem recurs obviously after taking permission from your Oncologist.
