What Causes Ulcers On Inside Of Bottom Lip?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 Aug 2014
Question: My inside bottom lip is tender ans has some swelling on each side inside the lip. My lips also feel really dry and irritated. Ive had this for 2 months. Went to urgent care place and they didn't know. Went to oral surgeon and said it looks fine. Don't know what else to do. I also got a sore on my tongue that went away then one on tip of tongue. Lip still is the same and lips feel the same. Could it be a herpes thing or a bacterial infection or fungus infection ?/ Lips bother me. Have to put burts lip save to get relief.

Brief Answer:
Please provide pictures and certain details

Detailed Answer:
Hi

From your description, I can sense that there is some kind of a reaction over you lips .
I would like to have a look at the exact skin condition.
Please click some close up pictures of the lips, both outer and inner side if possible along with pictures of tongue showing the lesions. Upload the pictures here on this page only.
Also please tell if you have noticed development of any fluid filled small lesions over lips?
Any whitish collections over tongue?
Have you been applying any new lipstick or lip balm or have noticed an increased irritation after its use?
Are you currently on any medicines like pain killers or antibiotics?
Are your blood sugar levels normal?

I am sure I will be able to help you more once you provide me the above details and the pictures .

No lipstick. No medications. Seems like sores have something to do with it. Only have one on tip of tongue. Ill send pictures as soon as I can get help.

Brief Answer:
Oral ulcers, does not look like cold sores

Detailed Answer:
From the description , it looks like you have developed oral aphthae.
Now these ulcers can develop due to various reasons like stress, multivitamin deficiency or due to other idiopathic causes .
You can start intake of oral multivitamin tablets once a day.
In addition, since you have irritation and dryness over lips, I would advise you to continue with application of the lip balm.
You can , in addition apply topical cortisone cream over the lips once a day for four to five days so as to relieve the irritation.

Everything I read goes to herpes. Can you get herpes 2 in your mouth and what is that and does it go away ?
Can it be allergy with having sore ? Its a clear tiny bubble on end of tongue.
I've had this lip problem for 2 months now.
I do take different vitamins. Vitamin C, D3, B12 and some others. I switch around daily. Milk thistle, fish oil and others but I don't take everyday.
Thanks so much!

Brief Answer:
Kindly provide pictures

Detailed Answer:
Please upload some close up pictures of the skin lesions, both over the tongue and the lips so that I can have a look at them.
I would then be able to clearly rule out herpes.

Hope you got the pictures. The sore is on the tip of my tongue. That is the only sore as of now. I did have one on side of tongue but that is gone. If you look close up the inside of my bottom lip is enlarged.
Thank you, XXXXXXX
It makes me nervous because I have grand children that I am close to that kiss me on the lips. Do not want to spread anything to them. We have a family owned business and I do all of the scheduling and payables and receiveables. I don't think I am under any unusual stress. I do take bioidentical hormones that is monitored every 6 months to keep in correct range. They said it shouldn't have anything to do with lip problem. This is so frustrating. Had this for weeks now. The sore on tongue doesn't seem to be going away. Its not painful like a fever blister.

Brief Answer:
Oral aphthous ulcers with cheilitis, improve diet

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I have seen the attached pictures .
You surely don't seem to have a herpes infection .
There is an oral aphthous ulcer over the tongue with cheilitis.
Now both of these things definitely point towards a nutritional etiology. So first of all, it is important that you increase the intake of fresh fruits and salads. Take oral multivitamin supplements for few weeks, preferably containing vitamin b .
In addition, I can see that the angles of mouth are cut and inflammed. Now this can occur either as a part of vitamin deficiency or can occur in candidia infection. So you should apply some antifungal cream like canestan over the lips especially at the angles of mouth for two weeks.
You can continue to hydrate your lips with a lip balm.

Thanks so much. I really don't think it is vitamins because I take vitamins and I have a good diet. I eat fruit almost everyday. I don't eat processed foods or drink juices or soy products and only use olive oil in cooking or salads but I will get a multi vitamin and I will get the anti fungal cream.
Thanks again so much. I hope it works. If it doesn't what would be my next step. What if that little blister doesn't go away. Is there someone that wouls take a sample of it to see what it is ? Should I go to dermatologists or what kind of dr.?
Hopefully I wont need to.
Thanks again

Brief Answer:
Take treatment, it should get better

Detailed Answer:
Hi

The oral aphthous ulcers might take ten to fourteen days to heal up completely . But in an
case, if tho lesion still tends to persist or you develop any new lesions too, then you can see a general physician but preferably a dermatologist .
The lesions over lips should heal once you start application of the medicine and intake of oral multivitamins.

Just want to thank you and tell you how pleased I am using your site. The urgent care had no idea what it was and both app to an oral surgeon were very disappointing. He just bent lower lip over and said it looked fine and didn't listen to me and the 2nd . app he said theres nothing wrong and isn't that a good thing. Acting as though I was a hyperchondiac or making it up.
Thanks again, XXXXXXX
