Posted on Wed, 4 Jun 2014
Question: My daughter who is 24, and otherwise healthy, awoke at 2 am with multiple episodes of vomiting. She then developed a lo grade temp of 99.4. We took her to the ED where she was given 3 litres of NS and Zofran. Her pulse was 130 and dropped to 90-100 after the fluid. Now she feels weak, her fingers and toes are tingling, she still has a temp.99.4, pulse 120. She had Korean prepared chicken for lunch 14 hours before symptoms. she has had 4 doses of Zofran 4 mg each.

Brief Answer:
To rule out possibility of Acute Pancreatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear XXXX

Tingling sensation in fingers and toes could be likely due to Hypocalcemia that is low calcium level. One of the possible cause I would like to rule out with the symptom of vomiting (it's unlikely for vomiting alone to cause so much dehydration to induce high pulse rate) , tachycardia ( increased heart rate) and Fever is Acute Pancreatitis.

I would suggest you to get the following investigation done in consultation with your Physician
1. Complete Blood count
2. Serum Electrolyte including Serum calcium level
3. Serum Amylase and Lipase
4. Ultrasound of abdomen
5. Serum Creatinine and Blood Urea

Do keep me updated about her progress.

Take care
