Posted on Wed, 10 Jun 2015
Question: I have had tingling in my hands for years, my feet turn red when I am siting. They also turn red when walking. I have recently been diagnosed with TN1. Is there a relationship or common ailment that would include both or are they 2 different independent issues? MS has been a suggested link. Age 63, active male average weight no other symptoms, rarely get ill.

Brief Answer:
What is TN1

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Greetings from Dr.Divakara. P
Thanks for posting your query.

Tingling sensation indicates Nerve problem and redness indicates problems in blood flow.

There are many conditions which can cause these problems like Diabetes, Vitamin deficiency, certain heavy metal poisoning, autoimmune diseases or endocrine diseases.

But before going to their evaluation I need to know what exactly you mean by TN1 so that I can discuss about that and possible relation with your present symptoms.

Kindly let me know .
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Its due to disease that can cause both TN and your present symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Trigeminal Neuralgia is a problem where Trigeminal nerve is affected. Your other problems also indicate that the nerves are affected. Your symptoms are not due to TN but it could be due to certain cause which can lead to both TN and your symptoms.

I hope you have been completely evalauted for TN as there are certain causes like Brain tumour, aneurysms, Infections like tuberculosis, Vasculitis which can cause TN and also the symptoms of redness and tingling.

If such evaluation has been done kindly upload the reports so that I can analyse and let you know if any additional test needs to be done or not.

Yes Multiple sclerosis is also one among the condition which can cause both TN and your symptoms but its incidence is less and hence shall be considered once all the above conditions are ruled out.

Regards.
