What Causes Throbbing Pain In Penis Area And Burning Sensation During Urination?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jul 2015
Question: Hey......This problem started happening 2 weeks back. That day i had a bottle of beer in morning w/o breakfast......after a night of excessive drinking. then i have a heavy chicken based lunch outside and the weather was very hot. Prior to that i had been travelling for last 20 days in extreme weather. So the problem started with a throbbing type of pain in penis area and a burning sensation during urination. There were little redness inside the penis head(opening). I met a sexologist, practising near my home and he prescribed basic UTI based medicine, although my basic urine culture test came normal. after taking medicines for 5 days, pain got a bit better (half in intensity). I decided to consult a specialist urologist, who asked me to go again for urine test in addition to blood test and a sonography of lower abdomen. Though, my urine, blood and sonography examination came up normal, doc. decided after seeing the sonography film that problem might be due to prostate cysts. He prescribed me with Docycycline capsules (an antibiotic), Tab Gabapentin for 3 weeks and asked me to go for Sitz bath twice a day. Its been 5 days since i have been following the advice consciously. But the problem has aggravated a bit as other than preresiding throbbing/burning pain in penis/urine, lower abdomen pain has also started which is increasing day by day. I don't know where i am going wrong. I don't know if its is linked, but i had a unprotected intercourse around 4.5 months back.
Please help me, while you can. Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Please provide more information

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Looking at your description and doctors prescription which is not clear, there are few possibilities like
Passing of concentrated urine though penis leading to inflammation of the meatus
Cystitis or prostatitis
Acid peptic disease

To help you better I would like following details
Relevant medical history like if you had similar complaints in past?
Colour and frequency of passing urine?
Abdominal pain is constant in nature or it comes in episodes?

Have lots of water since you are in XXXXXXX that's quite a hot place until recently it rained.
You need not to worry You will be alright very soon
I would advise you to take anti acidity medicines if you are not taking like rabeprazole or pantoprazole with antacids like gelusil

Hope this helps you
please revert back to me with details So that I will be able to tell you more precisely
wish you good health

1) No i didn't had any similar problem/complaint in the past.
2) Like initially the colour of urine was very dark and i always felt like i have to go to toilet. Atleast 8-10 times a day. But recently it has colour has become normal but a burning sensation while urination is still there. Frequency is right now around 6-8 times a day...maye be because i am drinking lots of water.
It is constant in nature but it is more felt/predominant during evening hours.

Also, i have started drinking canberry juice (somewhere i red its helpful in urinary infections). I am drinking lots of water.

Flow of medicines as per the attached prescription. All the reports such as urine culture, bloodtest, sonography are attached for reference.

Please consider these guidelines

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your reply
You need not to worry, your doctor has given you correct medicines please follow his advise seriously.

Looking at your detailed description and reports you have attached with is suggestive of UTI or inflammation of the urogenital tract
In my opinion during the passage of concentrated and dark coloured urine, your urethra might have injured or an inflammation might have set in which will take time to heal completely.

So continue with lots of water
Cranberry juice will definitely help you and you can also take lemon water or urine alkalizing agent about which your doctor knows.
Avoid alcohol and beer until it heals completely
Please write back to me if you have any more doubts; I will be happy to help you
Best wishes

Well i have been taking Doxy Cycline Capsules & Gabapentin tab (both 1OD) since 12-06-2015. Also, i have been taking setz baths with warm water twice (morning and evening). I have definitely observed improvement in the original problem/pain i was suffering in penis/urine. But exactly the day after i started these meds, abdomen pain started to set in. So, that's what has been my main worry. Today i had a followup session with my doctor and he has asked me to continue with the same two tabs. Also, he has prescribed Tab Drotin (SoS) in case abdomen pain becomes worse. But he seemed quite satisfied after again going thru my sonography film, that the problem would be resolved.

My question is : is it possible that this abdomen pain i am getting may be a side-effect of medicines i am taking. Because, i am not having any problems like acidity or constipation which may cause stomach pain.

Brief Answer:
Both the medicines can cause stomach upset and pain in abdomen

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your reply
Both the medicines can cause stomach upset and pain in abdomen
It can cause hyperacidity leading to pain in abdomen.
I am very much sure that you will be alright very soon with this treatment
In my opinion you should take pantoprazole or renitidine tablets for this pain in abdomen to counter drug induced hyperacidity

Hope this answers your question
