What Causes Throbbing Abdominal Pain After Tampon Insertion?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: Hi, I'm not a fan of tampons because I often loose quite big blood clots so usually use pads however I'm on holiday so I have been wearing tampons only to go in the pool. When inserting it today I experienced a dull throbbing pain in my right ovary immediately after, I lay on my stomach for a few minutes to see if it would pass and then experienced a sensation in my clitorus. Had I inserted the tampon wrong or something?

Brief Answer:
Choose proper size tampon. Analgesic and antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam,
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic.
I have gone through your query.
I think I have understood your concern, I will try to suggest you the best possible treatment options.
First of all do not panic, try to be calm.
It appears from your history that you are yet to get adjusted to use of tampons. If you choose right size there won't be pain while and after insertion. The pain that you are describing might be due to some kind of pelvic congestion or mild PID. I will suggest a course of broad spectrum antibiotics like AMOXY CLAV or DOXYCYCLINE group, your regular gynecologist will be aware about them. You can use antispasmodic or analgesic (pain killer) if needed.
Sensation in the clitoris seems non specific, I will suggest you to maintain vaginal hygiene.
I hope my answer helps you.
If any query , please revert back.
Thanks.
