Question: What would cause a swollen lymph node in the groin. It's on both sides but one is a little larger. It's about a 1/4 in long

Brief Answer:
Infection or lymphoma. Please consult hematologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Enlarged lymph nodes can appear due to infection or systemic disease (lymphoma).
Infection should be localized in lower limbs area or groin area. But this usually gives one side lymph nodes enlargement.
Both sides lymph nodes enlargement indicates some generalized issue.

I suggest you to consult hematoloigst as soon as possible. Ultrasound with biopsy should be done to diagnose the problem.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

So it's probably cancer?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (9 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
It might be a lymphoma.

Detailed Answer:
I do not assume that you have a cancer. I just say you need to rule it out.
Lymphoma is not a typical cancer. It can be successfully treated. And no one can tell if its a lymphoma or not without biopsy.
So please do not wait with it.

Brief Answer:
So maybe the lymph nodes are regular.

Detailed Answer:
If this lymph nodes are the same for a long time, why do you assume they are enlarged?
It seems that this nodes are regular. But still I suggest you to have an ultrasound done to ease your mind.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound is a good idea if you are not sure.

Detailed Answer:
I am unable to tell you if this nodes are enlarged or not without palpation. So if you are not sure, ultrasound seems reasonable. Just to make sure.

Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (51 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
This might be just a regular lymph nodes.

Detailed Answer:
Constant and regular pressing can make them a little larger. But not much. If you are thin person, you may be able to palpate regular inguinal lymph nodes. If you are not sure, at least have them under observation.
