What Causes Swollen Itchy Lips After Having Ketorolac And Tramadol?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: Hello my name is XXXXXXX I had a small surgical procedure done to remove a tooth 12 days ago. I took Ketorolac-Tramadol for 7 days and Cefalexina for 6 days. I was ok for the first 7 days, but on the 8th day or so, my lips swelled and began to itch. Condition lasted 24 hrs or so. Then, 3 days later, my lips swelled even more, with more itching. This condition peaked on the second day. Today is the 3rd day. The picture was taken minutes ago. I wonder if it's an allergic reaction or Herpes, and how to treat it. I believe I have the Herpes virus since age 9. But it has never manifested this way.

Brief Answer:
It's Allergic reaction.

HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
First of all thanks for choosing Healthcaremagic for posting your query.

No it is not looking like Herpes . It seems like an allergic reaction only but what amazes me is why it happened on the 8th day.

Most of the time it occurs on the 2nd or 3rd day. But yes , there is a entity called delayed allergic reactions . This might have happened in your case.

You said it peaked on the second day , so I presume it has slightly reduced today,, right ? In that case nothing needs to be done but just don't start Ketorolac-Tramadol and Cefalexina. You may be allergic to any one of them or all of three.

If in case the swelling increases you need to get a prescription for Wysolone tablet. It's a oral steroid that will suppress the allergic reaction.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .
