Brief Answer:
Please find causes of ankle swelling given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The commonest cause ankle swelling is after injury to the ankle or foot. If you have an injury then there is accumulation of fluid in the soft tissue of the ankle.

2. Non traumatic causes might include heart problems, kidney problems, liver problems or thyroid problem. Though this usually involves both ankles, rarely it might be seen on a single side. These need to be evaluated clinically in association with other symptoms.

3. People who spend a lot of time on their feel all day also experience ankle swelling due to polling of blood in the lower limbs. This might be seen more on one side.

4. Taking certain medicines also causes swelling of the ankle and foot.

5. In conclusion, please consult your doctor and get examined to know if your ankle swelling is significant and whether it require detailed evaluation.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
