What Causes Swollen And Painful Toe?

Question: NMy big toe has had a dark vertical streak in it, roughly 5 mm wide. No pain of any kind has been associated with it.

I've had it for over a month.

All of a sudden, my toe is now swollen and painful.

Hi there.

This could be fungal infection especially if associated with itching and skin maceration.

Keep the area clean and dry. Avoid sweat accumulation. Change socks daily.

Avoid wearing uncomfortable footwear. Use open air sandals with soft comfortable parts.

You can apply antibiotic, antifungal with steroid combination cream to the streak.

If possible do upload a photo of the lesion to help into a more specific diagnosis.

I have viewed the photo.

It appears to be nail fungal infection.

You can apply antifungal cream like Lamisil to the nail. Also oral course of Lamisil can be taken for 2 weeks.
