What Causes Swelling On Skin Graft Site On Foot?
Question: Hello Doctor
One of my friend had undergone through Grafting on her foot 5 yrs ago. Now she has big scar or marks on her foot.
One more thin doctor, she is having swelling on her foot where grafting was done. But this swelling occurs only when sge sits on the chair for long hours. This Swelling disappears when she takes rest.
Doctor i have following queries
1. Is there any way to reduce or remove this grafting scar or marks ?
2. Can this grafting create any problem in her future?
3. is this swelling coming due to grafting or there is any other reason for this ?

1. I don't know the indication of the grafting. I know only one thing that her foot skin got damaged in car accident.
right now i don't have the photographs
2. No she has not taken any treatment for the scar
3. No she is not suffering from vericose veins

Hello. Welcome back.
The treatment of scar will depend on its type and thickness. If it is hypertrophic scar, then intralesional steroid injections is the treatment of choice.
Else various medicines are available in cream formulations containing heparin, slicone gel etc.
Regarding the swelling in the leg, the most likely possibility for this is a condition called Post traumatic Venous Insufficiency.
I would advise you to get her Color venous doppler to look for venous insufficiency or any valve defect of the involved limb.
Till then she should take following precautions-
1) Wrap crepe bandage in the involved limb from foot to knee while standing.
2) put pillow beneath legs while lying down such that the level of limbs is above the level of heart.
3) Raise the legs and support against wall for five minutes 3 times a day .
This will improve the circulation in lower limbs thus reducing the swelling.
