What Causes Swelling Of Legs While On Xeralto?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: I had been on Xeralto for 5 months and my legs began to swell - the left one much larger than the right one . I had a blood clot in my left thigh. I was taken off Xeralto after the 6th month. I had some tests done about a month ago and it was discovered that I have a blood clot in my lungs so the doctor put me back on Xeralto. A couple of weeks ago, my right leg started "seeping" or "weeping" just above my ankle. I did relay this information to the doctor but the only thing I was told was to get some compression hose which I am in the process of doing - I have no idea how I will get them on as I am recovering from a broken arm and have limited use of that arm. Do you think that the Xeralto is causing the swelling? What would you advise?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Better to get done bilateral lower limb venous doppler.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your situation and problem.
In my opinion, you should get done bilateral lower limb venous doppler study to rule out deep venous thrombosis (DVT).
If it is positive for DVT than you may also need additional anticoagulant as xeralto is not sufficient enough to prevent thrombosis.
Also rule out hypercoagulable states like hyperhomocystienemia, protein C and protein S deficiency etc.
And xeralto can not cause such symptoms as side effects.
So better to consult your doctor and discuss all these.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
