What Causes Swelling In Pre-auricular Lymph Nodes While Suffering From ETD?

Question: Hi XXXX,
I have been having a prolonged period of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction which has been appearing for three or four days and then waning for a few. I have had this confirmed by a doctor.
When the ETD is quite strong I have noticed an associated swelling just before the tragus which gives under pressure and is a little sore to the touch.
Do you think there may be a correlation?

Brief Answer:
Related to ET dysfunction.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You are talking about soft swelling of the pre-auricular lymph nodes which are present infront of the tragus. Yeah they drain the eustachain tube and thus are enlarged when the ET is inflammed or infected. The signs of yielding of the lump to pressure and moving are benign.

You should get this evaluated if the swelling persists even after ET dysfunction is resolved.

Hope this answers.

Hi Dr Parinam,
Thanks for your response.
I have had the ETD now for over five months and the pre-auricular lymph nodes are swelling up every time.
My ENT specialist doesn't think there is too much to be done and has recommended continuing the nasal steroid treatment with a healthy dose of patience.
When the ETD is bad, it is very bad affecting my sleep patterns and concentration.
Is there any other possible way of treating this?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
I concur ent opinion

Detailed Answer:
sorry for delay. trust me do not bother about lymph nodes. I concur with your ent opinion only if the cause was found after thorough evaluation. there are different causes and few causes treatment is only for symptoms. find the cause from him first.

let me know.
