What Causes Swelling In Foot Around The Cracked Heels?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Aug 2015
Question: There was an article in our paper recently about a skin condition l believe was called Cellulitus. It was written by a doctor that does a daily column in our paper. It mentioned something about a layer under the skin that gets exposed when feet are cracked and/or have a fungus.
I have been having so much trouble with my dry cracked feet and think that I might be picking up something from our outdoor carpet as I go barefoot a lot.
Today my right foot is swollen, which may be from the piece of glass I finally removed, but I'm concerned it may be something else.
Do you know about this skin condition I'm referring to? I cannot find the article I read.

Brief Answer:
Get evaluation done by surgeon.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query at HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.

Cellulitis can be any part of the body mostly on inflamed wounds, dirty cuts, and areas with poor circulation. It causes redness, red streaking, swelling, warmth, pain or tenderness and leaking of yellow, clear fluid or pus. The doctor usually prescribes rest, analgesic and antibiotics. Now coming to your case. I would suggest that you must not make self diagnosis. Now you saying you had a cut by glass which you removed. I suggest that you must apply betadine if wound. Keep your skin dry and clean. As you said there is swelling it is possible that some glass may be still there. If painful and swelling persists then you must visit a surgeon. In meanwhile acetaminophen will be beneficial.

Take care
