What Causes Swelling And Tenderness In Scrotum?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Nov 2014
Question: Yesterday I was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and put on Doxycycline, 200mg twice a day. My white blood count is very high. I have swelling and tenderness in my scrotum. My right testicle is also very sensitive to touch. As of today I am also constipated. I'm going to a urologist on Thursday but don't know if I can wait that long. The pain is pretty bad. Please help.

Brief Answer:
Severe UTI and testicular swelling

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM

I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with a UTI but it also sounds like you have an infection of the scrotum and possible epididymis. The doxycycline is a good antibiotic to help fight the infection. It is very important that you continue to take your antibiotics and not miss any.

To help with the testicular pain I recommend wearing a good supportive pair of underwear or if tolerated a jock strap. If this is too painful then take today and tomorrow off work and lay in bed with the testicles supports from below with a towel. To also help reduce pain take alternating Tylenol and Naprosyn every 2 hours. This can help the pain and reduce the swelling.

If you can't get relief then I recommend that you be seen at an urgent care or emergency room for better pain relief. You may also call your doctor to see if he will give you some pain medication.

For the constipation which is common I recommend miralax and colace. The colace will help keep you stool soft and the miralax allow to pass easily. Do not try to strain to have a bowel movement as it will greatly increase your pain.
