Brief Answer:
This is neuropathy

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have read your case and it looks to me that it is neuropathy. It can be because of many reasons like Diabetes, Thyroid problem, smoking, Low serum B 12.
This pattern of neuropathy is called as glove and stock pattern. I have following advice for your friend.
1. Serum B 12 estimation
2. Thyroid and blood sugar check
He should start tablet Methylcobal after discussing with doctor. Please send me result of these tests.
I hope this answer will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any follow up questions.
