What Causes Sudden Onset Of Blurred Vision, Slurred Speech And Tiredness?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: My mom has had several episodes of no-warning onset of blurred vision, followed by slurred speech (20 minutes average per episode), finally followed by extreme tiredness. She sleeps, then wakes up unaware of what happened and then is perfectly fine. She's been admitted to hospital twice, seen by Neurologists & cardiologists, had the MRI, neck check, and there is no diagnosis. A small small showing of one TIA. She is currently experiencing the exact same symptoms as I type this. She is 75, and in excellent health otherwise. She is with me in France on holiday. HELP!

Brief Answer:
Aspirin can be taken as she has Mri Finding

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Your mother's symptoms may be due to transient ischaemic attacks or some seizure activity.
Possibility of TIA is more as she is 75 years of age.
Risk factors for TIA and stroke are age, hypertension, diabetes, cardiac, atherosclerosis, dyslipidemia.
The blurred vision is unilateral or bilateral? Unilateral visual blurring with dysarthria may be due to internal carotid stenosis.
Bilateral visual blurring is usually due to hypotension, syncopal or presyncopal symptoms.
I will advise you at present to continue aspirin, proper hydration and rest, avoid extreme neck movement.
Later on consult a neurologist for proper evaluation.
She may be requiring Holter monitoring, 2D echo, aortogram with neck vessel angiography. Other blood test for diabetes, lipid profile, urea, creatinine, liver function test, hemoglobin, Thyroid profile, vitamin B12, homocysteine may also be done.
Hope she recovers early.
God bless you and your family.
