What Causes Sudden Loss Of Hearing And Dizziness?
Question: For about 6 weeks, I have had some deafness in my left ear (feels stopped up) and it causes some dizziness. I went to an ear doctor, who prescribed antihistamines. I took them for a couple of weeks. It didn't help. I can't see another ear doctor for two months, so I'm wondering what I can do myself to relieve the deafness and dizziness. There is no pain. Should I try antibiotics? What do you suggest?

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing ear fullness and dizziness. This sounds like you may have Meniere's disease. This is common condition and may also have accompanying buzzing of the ears called tinnitus. There is no treatment for this condition. The fullness will gradually resolve but may take months.
If you do not have Meniere's you may have fluid build up behind the eardrum but your ENT would have seen it and prescribed antibiotics along with the antihistamine. The combination would have resolved your problem in a few weeks. Since they did not put you on antibiotics at the onset I doubt you have fluid issues. But if that is still a possibility then a repeat course of antibiotics and possible ear tubes maybe needed.
