default
Posted on Fri, 4 Mar 2016
Question: I am all of sudden in the past 2 days experiencing symptoms of GERD. Periodic very painful chest pains that are eventually relieved by Gavoston. I have been eating nothing different mostly vegetables and meat, some fruit. I am under a lot of stress. Can this be causing it?

Brief Answer:
Most certainly the trigger factor in your case sir

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Yes, the stress is most certainly the trigger factor here (in your case). Just for your reference let me try to remember and list all the triggers:

+Oily food
+Spicy food
+Fried food
+Fatty food
+Carbonated drinks
+Strenuous exercise
+Long gaps between meals
+Stress (anything more than 2/5)
+Smoking
+Alcohol
+Overeating
+Poor fluid intake
+Acidic food intake (including acidic fruits)
+Eating 2-3 large meals in a day (preferably have 5-6 smaller meals)
and a few others.

I understand how stress is something thats difficult to deal with, but please do try and relax and also visit a doctor for some relaxation techniques. But you can also initiate:

+1 tablet of lansoprazole 30 mg 15 minutes before breakfast (can be taken for the rest of your life without any serious consequences at all)
+1 tablet of ranitidine or omeprazole 15 minutes before a meal during the aggravation of your symptoms

I hope this helps you. Please do not hesitate to write to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
