Question: My Two Year Old baby passes little bit Mucus Stool. Four Month back he passes this type of stool. That time doctor advised Z and D suspension for 14 days. Doctor also advised not to stop the medicine without completing the course even the stool become well and Stool Routine and Urine Routine test give negative pus cell. The test result was negative. His stool become well after taking one dose of the Medicine but we continue for 14 Days.
This time after taking one dose of the medicine his stool become well. Should we continue the medicine Z & D for 14 Days?
It is to be noted that one year back he under gown treatment of urinary tract infection. So his Urine Routine test is done monthly and Pus Cell are found 1-2 hf every time.

Brief Answer:
Please continue Zinc for 14 days- no need to repeat urine test

Detailed Answer:
Hi....I have just gone through your query - my suggestions are as follows -

1. Continue ZandD drops for 14 days...even if the stool has improved symptomatically. Also the baby should be given hygienic food and cleaner drinking water.

2. Regarding his monthly urine test - I beg to differ with what you are doing right now. No need to repeat urine routine analysis once a month. Rather than this I would prefer to educate you about the signs of urinary tract infection and if they appear thrnb you can get the test done.

Symptoms of urinary tract infection are -

1. Pain or burning sensation while passing urine.
2. Pain in tummy.
3. High grade fever.
4. Vomiting.

If these are not there you need not do urine routine analysis unnecessarily.
