What Causes Stomach Pain In A Person With GERD?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Jun 2015
Question: I am a 57 year old male. I was diagnosed with GERD about 12-15 years ago and got an endoscopic test. everything good. Had a colonoscopy 6 years ago, everything fine. Had a rectal scope, prostate exam last december everything clear. Last two weeks I have had stomach pain almost every day. Normal stool movements, no diarria, constipation. no fatigue, loss of appetite or weight. I feel good except stomach pain. ONly a 1-2 on scale of 10. but frustrating because it seems to always be there. On prilosec for a week and feels a little better. less gas. what do you think i have?

Brief Answer:
Esophagus or stomach inflammation is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

As you have GERD, you are prone to changes in stomach and esophagus. Endoscopy done in the time it was diagnosed is now a history. During that time so much could happen in your upper GI tract. Constant acid irritation can cause a condition called Barrets esophagus. If this occurs, the risk of esophagus cancer is increased.
Also peptic ulcer or just stomach inflammation are also possible. Even Helicobacter Pylori can cause such constant stomach pain.
Prilosec intake has caused some improvement. This makes any stomach or esophagus issue more possible.

I suggest you to have endoscopy repeated and H.Pylori test done. This will help to rule mentioned above conditions out.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
