What Causes Stabbing Pain In Rectum, Cold Sweats And Nausea?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Mar 2016
Question: Last night I went to bed with a feeling of food stuck in my upper stomach, just below my breastbone. Woke up this morning with stabbing pain in rectum, still feeling that food stuck sensation in stomach. Sat on toilet, no gas or straining but nothing came out. Suddenly went into cold sweat, nausea and faintness. Thought I was going to pass out. Laying in bed till it passed for 1/2 hour, now the sensations are starting all over again. Almost feels like I need to burp but if I do I will throw up.

I have had bouts of mild diarrhea off and on for past few weeks, but this is different. I feel nauseous but not enough to throw up, more like I'm going to pass out. I am a 50 year old female, don't drink or drugs, eat well and mountain bike 4-5 times a week. Hysterectomy and gall bladder removed 10 years ago. Dad died of esophageal cancer, so I'm concerned.

Brief Answer:
Not likely esophageal cancer but work up required

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.

Firstly , these are not symptoms of esophageal cancer which is in general very rare.

However, since you have some symptoms for longer period and these pretty strange sensations now,I think that more detailed gastroenterologic work up is required.

These symptoms may be sign of specific hormonal effect which some gastrointestinal tumors may produce and these are called neuroendocrine tumors. This is also rare but should be ruled out.

Most common this is just sign of gastroenteritis and should pass on its own but I suggest to do work up if this happens again.

Till then , drink plenty of fluids take probiotics and rest.

Wish you good health.

Gastro signs gone, still very dizzy, cold sweats and chills. Tingling down inside of left arm and very weak. None of this is normal for me, as im very active and eat healthy. The lightheaded feeling is very strong.

Brief Answer:
I suggest to check blood tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
These may be symptoms of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance so you should check blood counts, potasium, sodium, magnesium and calcium levels, blood sugar and creatinine.
Still, it may be all that I ve mentioned above in my previous answer.

Let me know the results
