What Causes Spotting Along With Painful Swollen Breasts?
Question: I am 50 years old, have had very normal periods up until now, have been sexually active with a new partner for last year. I recently missed a period or it was quite late. I did a pregnancy test due to very swollen belly and painfully swollen and heavy breasts. Test was negative and a period finally came. Relief- or so I thought. After the period ended the swollen breasts and belly continued. Still they have not gone away. I'm exhausted, feel out of sorts, today I have brown spotting mixed with normal red, enough to require a pad.
Can this just be pre-menopause or could this be an ectopic pregnancy? I've been pregnant 4 times before and I know my body and I FEEL pregnant in every way, yet 2 tests have come up negative and I e had a normal period and now this spotting. So I'm utterly confused.

Brief Answer:
During perimenopausal period hormonal disbalance can give such presentation

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concerns. I think that you are getting perimenopausal symptoms. Had it been ectopic pregnancy it would still have given positive results in the urine pregnancy test. Anyway, I would suggest you to take precaution between your 10th and 18th day which is your fertile period but the rest you can go without precaution as during that period you would not get pregnant anyway.
