What Causes Spinning Sensation In Morning After Waking Up From Sleep?

Question: I have had 2 mornings that I woke up & as I took my head off the pillow to get up everything around me was spinning. I was fine if I lay down again. Went to doctor who checked blood pressure ,ears throat etc & said I had Vertigo & gave me script for stemetil. During day I am ok but have a slight headache & ringing sound in ears. How long does this last & should I take thes tablets 3 times a day & for how long.
