Question: Hi I am a 64 year old female and tripped over an iron pipe in the garden three weeks ago hitting my lower shin. The skin split although did not bleed too much and immediate swelling of a small lump, this went down after a few hours. Although I can walk without pain the area is still very sore and red, although the wound has dried over. My foot swells throughout the day from ankle down. I did not seek medical advice but am now wondering whether I should have?

Brief answer....There is nothing to worry
Detailed answer....
Soreness, redness and swelling of foot means that underlying inflammation is still not gone.
Such type of complaints generally take 3-4 weeks to go.
I hope you are not diabetic.
Just take some ibuprofen 400 mg thrice a day for 4-5 days and you should be al right in next 5-7 days.
Wound healing gets delayed as the age advances because of reduced blood circulation.
In my opinion there is no need to consult a doctor as for now.
I hope it helps, however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
