What Causes Soreness On Right Side Of Rib Cage Just Under Breast?

Question: my ribcage on right side just under breast and down to last rib is very sore to touch,feels bruised and hurt if i stretch my right arm up.havent done any strenuous exercise so havent pulled anything.i did have some precancerous cells removed from right breast and radiotherapy a year ago but only had these soreness for last 24 hrs,have similar soreness under my arm since radiotherapy from sore lymph nodes but not in ribs before.Had mammogram and scan recently and all clear.There is no pain underneath my ribcage or in my stomach,the pain is not continuous it only hurts if i touch the area rather like pressing on a bruise.I have not had a cough recently.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. On the basis of short duration of symptoms the most likely cause looks to be costochondritis that is inflammation at the rib bone and cartilage junction. A self limiting pathology which heals with time.My suggestion would be to have hot water fomentation,Ibuprofen and muscle relaxant drug like thiocolchicoside will help beside local pain killer gel application.You may get it prescribed by the local doctor. I am hopeful of early improvement.

Is there any nausea/vomiting associated with pain and fever?

i have had nausea but no fever over the past few days but myself and my children have all had a sickness/diarrhoea bug over the last week.it is more tenderness than a pain,only hurts if pressed or if i stretch ,the wire from my bra hurts it.I have only had it for 24hrs i woke with it yesterday,could it be linked to the virus i have had ? I am travelling abroad tomorrow so cannot see a doctor until next week,my only concern was that i know th eliver is in that area and i had some irregular lft last year but after all kinds of tests they couldnt find any problem or reason why.I have voltarol pain gel which i can use but its only tender if i touch it there is no constant pain,the most tender area is where the bra wire sits and down the side directly under the wire,as i said not a pain more a severe bruised feeling.

I have gone through your reply carefully and being tender on touch is suggestive of inflammatory lesion.In this hot water fomentation,ibuprofen along with local gel application helps though it may take some time.You may travel abroad but carry the medicine with you.

ok so you dont think its my liver ? the soreness has eased and it mainly in the ribs directly underneath my right breast,it feels like the soreness i get under my right armpit from sore lymph nodes following radiotherapy.I will try the voltarol.
