What Causes Sore Throat, Choking And Tightness In Chest?

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Jul 2014
Question: Tuesday evening (It's Friday morning now) I accidentally got a piece of a sugar snap pea in my windpipe. I coughed and coughed and was able to pull it out. However, I am worried I may still have aspirated a particle of food. The next day (Wednesday) my throat was very sore - I figured from the choking. Yesterday(Thursday), I started with a cough and tightness in my chest. Today, I feel like I have bronchitis - I am coughing with the sound of phlegm and my chest feels tighter and I have some pain in my lung when I breath in deeply and when I cough. What should I do? Today is July 4th - is this something that can wait until Monday and see if I feel better? Or, do you think I need to see a doctor right away? Would you recommend an urgent care center or the ER, if you think I should get checked out now since Dr's office closed?

Brief Answer:
should see a doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using healthcaremagic,

Yes madam, I would suggest you see a doctor immediately.
From your symtpoms it is possible that you have contracted a lower respiratory tract infection - bronchitis or pneumonia.
You will need an X Ray and some routine blood work.
You may also need antibiotics.
Waiting till monday is not a good idea, do not wait till your symtpoms worsen, see a doctor now.

Regards,
