What Causes Small Red Dots In Arms In A Patient With Mitral Valve Prolapse ?

Question: Hi I'm 31 years old woman and I've noticed small red dots in my arms since the past Saturday and also I've notice that I have more in the last days they are increasing . I had a dental procedure 10 days ago and I also have a mitral valve prolapse and a incomplete right brach blockage . I went to the doctor and he did a CBC and a CRP and both test came back normal . I'm worried about having a endocarditis should I ask for more tests ?

Hi,
I read your query and understood your concerns.

You have a mitral valve prolaps and having a dental procedure recently increase the risk of infective endocarditis especially in the presence of small red dots in your arms that are increasing in numbers.

Althought CBC and CRP test were negative this doesn't exclude the diagnosis of endocarditis. In order to definitely rule out endocarditis, I advise to run:
- Cardiac Echo
- Hemoculture (culture of blood sample).

My primary doctor is out of town can i stay like this without further test until he returns or do you sugest to visit the hispital

My opinion is that you should go to visit the hospital for further examinations (cardiac echo, blood culture etc.). You shouldn't wait until your doctor turns at his office.
